SharePoint 2013 - Pilothouse Training

SharePoint 2013 - Pilothouse Training is the perfect training for novice to expert levels. I have been working with SharePoint since Microsoft released SharePoint 2007. My roles include power user trainer, content manager and SharePoint administrator. I have used various training tools to keep my skill set sharp including "Boot Camps".

SharePoint 2013 Training by Pilothouse is by far the best tool I have used. It starts at the basic user level and works its way up to administration level in easy to understand presentations followed by a demo and then a lab. The instructor lead slides and demos are excellent. In the lab you have an option of using Microsoft 365 online (free account if needed) or using a VM environment created by Pilothouse. I opted for the VM and it runs fine on Windows 7 or 8 with 8 gig of ram.

When you start the videos it is instructor lead with the instructor on screen talking with you - not a voice over. The benefit is having the instructor on screen with the slide deck and the ability to start, stop and rewind as needed. This is far better in my opinion than sitting in an overpriced Boot Camp where you pay your money and walk out with 1/4 of the information retained. An added benefit is they provide you the slide decks and the Labs in PPT or PDF format.

Customer Support - It could not be better. I have contacted Pilothouse on several occasions for both technical insight and setup information. Each time I have had a response within 24 hours.

In summary, if you are looking for quality, instructor lead and easy to understand training give these guys a chance I think it will be the best $350 you can spend on your career.

The best SharePoint training and resource

I took the SharePoint 2013 Development course with Andre in Vegas, and I have to say it was one of the best courses I've taken in my professional life, and I had plenty of them over the years. The course was focused and well organized. The pace was right. Andre was great, he didn't leave a question unanswered and he covered the whole curricular and on time.

I got the DVD as part of the course, and I've used it extensively after the course as a reference. It is like going through the course all over again. The quality is very good, the material is well organized and the demos are rich and very useful. You get a virtual environment to work on complete with everything you need.

I bought many SharePoint 2013 books and references but I still find this DVD to be the best resource I have.

Excellent, and they care for you after purchase

I purchased the 2010 version. I knew nothing about SharePoint before I took this course, although I have a decent background in I.T. I found the videos very well formulated, you can tell from the outset that the presenter/s really know what they are talking about. They never leave you feeling that something was not explained well. It starts at the beginning and then gets quite deep. All in all - excellent.

Also, they keep you up to date. 24 months after I bought mine, they sent me updates on a new large topic in SharePoint 2013 - very well explained again in about 2 more hours of video. Highly recommended.

Excellent Sharepoint 2013 Video Training DVD

I attended the author's training class and got the training DVD for free. It's really a great resource and it covers a whole lot that you wish to get from a Sharepoint training. The author demonstrates good knowledge of Sharepoint functionalities. The demos and lab exercises are excellent, it lets your progress seamlessly from the most fundemental topics towards the expert-level topics. The concepts you learned from a previous topic are deliberately repeated at the next topic so that you won't forget them. I have purchased a similar Sharepoint DVD video before and this is much better. The quality of the presentation is superb. I recommend this training DVD.

Great Video but too much fill

As a Sharepoint developer I purchased this video hoping to learn some new tricks about sharepoint 2010. I worked with SP2007 but other than some job sponsored marathon training I had limited experience using SP2010. This is a great video for someone who has the time to watch the host go through every single click and pound of the key. Don't get me wrong there is allot of instrunctional material here and some very refreshing tips and tricks and how to develop applications right out of the box using Sharepoint. My beef is that the Host spends too much time on trivialities such as creating permissions which takes way too much time and take you away from the essentials. For example while building a small library, the host goes through creating 3 sets of permission-groups when one would have been sufficient enough. This type of thing is repeated throughout the video. So instead of the video claiming 17 full hours of training they should have really claimed 10 hours of real training and 7 hours of "fill". During these "fill" moments you are bored to death watching the Host go through these simple maneuvers over and over again, at least I was. Instead of getting to the meat of the problem by speeding up the demo a little bit, you are left twilling your thumbs or watching the birds fly by the nearest window. Other than that, the tape does take you through the basics of creating a simple (OOTB) sharepoint site. Unfortunately, if you have had any enterprise experience with sharepoint, you will soon realize that this training is only the tip of the iceberg. Nevertheless it is a good refresher course for someone just beginning or somebody that has been out of the loop for a while in that you can go and over somewhat difficult subjects without disrupting any body else.

Great training for Sharepoint 2010

This CBT training was a great starting point for learning Sharepoint. The instructors would use live examples of setting up Shatepoint. I recommend this to anyone wanting to implement Sharepoint into their systems environment.

Great Training Course Material!!!

If you want to learn Sharepoint 2010, this is what you need. From regular user, to power user, to administrator to developer, its here. I can't say its all here, simply because Sharepoint is that big. You will see theory, real world examples and lab work. Rather than reading pages and pages of how to do things in Sharepoint from a book, pull out the DVD and watch the instructors do it. By the way, the instructors know what they are talking about. I attended their 5 day course, Andre and Duke (the instructors in the DVD) are knowledgeable, approachable, and got the right attitude in teaching the students and I think it shows on the DVD. This combination of skill and attitude is hard to come by these days.

Surprisingly great

This is the best CBT I've ever used. Before stating it, I was completely new to SharePoint. After completing a half of the course I became rather proficient in my current project (customizing Microsoft SLK - SharePoint Learning Kit).

I strongly suggest downloading a disk image with preinstalled SharePoint and MS Visual Studio2005 to be run inside of VirtualPC (there is a link to company's web site with that file).
Playing along with course material helped me a lot.
It's worth every penny.

Recommended for Developers

The presentation covers from set up to detailed development of lists, eventhandlers, and work flow. There is a load of information in the presentation, the presentations are then followed up with demonstrations. The DVD has a lab manual that can be used as a walk through after the demos to do the same things yourself. The DVD also has sample code and various SDKs for information on Sharepoint. The price is woth the sample code in itsself. The presentation is split up in easily accessible segments to review and re watch the segments you need to use as a refresher.

Excellent tutorial - highly recommend!

These training videos are not only the best I have watched regarding SharePoint but the best training videos I have ever watched on any technical subject. The author breaks down complex concepts and makes them easy to understand. The demos are great and the entire tutorial is invaluable to understanding SharePoint. If you are administering or developing on SharePoint, this tutorial will fast-track your learning. Also check out the author's tutorial on SharePoint 2007 Fundamentals SharePoint 2007 Fundamentals: Interactive Training Course (DVD-ROM) - watch that one first.

Pilothouse SharePoint Training Exceeds Expectations

In Oct 2009, I attended a course in Las Vegas for SharePoint. Pilothouse provided excellent training and it was superior to any other that we have seen out there. They provide information into SharePoint 2007 and 2010 to allow the class members to see the value in what is being designed and dangers to avoid for the migration issues. The course was for 5 days. Training starts with WSS and MOSS and builds into visual studio and complex programming. Compatibility is key in SharePoint strategies and the course covered this in detail to ease concerns with design and remove concept issues. The course not only taught technology but the integration into business practice with stern warnings in areas that may be considered SharePoint traps. The technical presentation is superior. Classification of work, building in solutions with "start small and growing" to meet the demands of the company are all well covered with direct correlation to equipment, software, human resources and business team involvement. The use of WSS/MOSS vs SharePoint Designer vs Visual Studio are all pieced together in a clear and understandable fashion. The demonstration on getting behind SharePoint and into its building blocks is most impressive and clearly presents the way that controls and modifications can be performed. It is hard to beat a vibrant company that is hunger to grow in the industry. Pilothouse is such a company. Enjoy your training. It will be some of the best you will ever experience.
