Online / Cloud / Office 365 SharePoint - Microsoft provides SharePoint as software as a service (hosting it in Microsoft data centers).
SharePoint 2016 On PremiseMicrosoft plans to release SharePoint 2016 in May of 2016. Many of the features currently available on Office 365 SharePoint will be a part of this release. Key imporvements include hypbrid mode, improved mobile navigation, large file support, expanded support for special characters in filenames, and SharePoint Server 2016 now provides the same data loss prevention capabilities as Office 365.
Office 365 SharePoint / SharePoint Online / SharePoint 2013-16Office 365 SharePoint Online was out at the end of February 2013. Initially, from the end user perspective, it was identical to the on premise version. Over time, Microsoft added a number of big and small features that are not available on premise. SharePoint 2013 On PremiseMicrosoft released the first technical preview to a select group of partners in early 2012 and the public beta in July of 2012. The final version came out in October 2012. Office 365 SharePoint Online was out at the end of February 2013. We worked hard to complete our SharePoint 2013 training and it became available in February of 2013.
