SharePoint 2019 On Premise

Microsoft is possibly planning to release SharePoint 2019 later this year and finally bring many "modern" interface improvements to on premise. Don't get too excited yet. Flow and Power Apps are unlikely to be supported without hybrid mode. Learn more about differences between online and on premise

SharePoint Online: Improved Communication and Hub sites

For many years Microsoft tried to make SharePoint Online information architecture flatter. Now with hub sites you can get some of that hierarchy back. Communications sites are a great replacement for on premise publishing features (you can't even turn them). .

Microsoft Teams with SharePoint Online sites

Teams build on the concept of Groups. Instead of email it's focused conversations organized by channels or direct chats. SharePoint is the backbone of document management and information storage in Teams. .
2016

SharePoint 2016 On Premise

Microsoft released SharePoint 2016 in May of 2016 and feature pack 2 in the fall of 2017 (which allows deployment of custom modern web parts to classic pages). SharePoint 2016 support modern interface in OneDrive sites only. Key improvements include hybrid mode, better mobile navigation, large file support, expanded support for special characters in filenames, and SharePoint Server 2016 now provides the same data loss prevention capabilities as Office 365.

Office 365 Groups with SharePoint Online sites

Groups introduce the concept of self service Azure active directory group creation. Group members have full access to a SharePoint site collection, shared mailbox, calendar, Power BI workspace, Planner, and more. .
2013

Office 365 SharePoint / SharePoint Online

Office 365 SharePoint Online was out at the end of February 2013. Initially, from the end user perspective, it was identical to the on premise version. Over time, Microsoft added a number of features that are not available on premise including "modern" interface for libraries, custom lists, and pages. 0365 Group, Communication, and hub sites are now center of governance model. SharePoint 2013 On Premise

Microsoft released the first technical preview to a select group of partners in early 2012 and the public beta in July of 2012. The final version came out in October 2012. Office 365 SharePoint Online was out at the end of February 2013. We worked hard to complete our SharePoint 2013 training and it became available in February of 2013.
