Error: "Certain Features in your video are currently disabled"

This error typically only comes up in chrome. You will need to disable an old Flash player plugin.
  1. Close the Chrome browser.
  2. Open the browser and type in "chrome://plugins/" in the address bar. This will take you to the following Plug-ins screen:

  3. Click on Disable under the Shockwave Flash 11.5 r31. If you do not have this plugin please call us to resolve the error with a technical assistant.

Video player is too large, cannot see parts of the training.

If the video player is too large and you can not see important parts of the training, please follow these steps.
  1. Click on Full screen button on the bottom right corner.

  2. Other option:
    Go into the content folder on your DVD player or hard drive (where the DVD is located), then go into the specific topic folder you would like to watch. Now click on the "*topic name*_player.html" file.

Software within virtual environment has expired.

Microsoft software such as Office, SharePoint, or Server has expired within the virtual environment. Please follow the link below to download the latest version of SharePoint virtual environment.

2010 DVD: Full Screen Demo links do not open in Internet Explorer.

Internet Explorer security setting are preventing a pop up to open links to the full screen demos. Choose one of these solutions:
  1. Use Firefox instead of Internet Explorer to view the Training DVD.
  2. Or copy the entire contents of the DVD to your local hard drive and play the training off your hard drive.
  3. Or manually open demo.html, which has all the demo links. Open the content folder in your DVD-ROM drive. Select the appropriate folder for the module you are interested in. Open data then resources folder and click on demo.html.
  4. This is the easiest method, but you have change your security settings. In Internet Explorer go to Tools > Internet Options > Security (tab). In the Internet zone uncheck Enable Protect Mode then click OK.

2010 Image: Should I choose "Move or Copy" in VMWare Player

Choose "Move". If you already chose "Copy", the image should still work fine, but you may have to activate software within it.

2010 Image: Error when accessing http://abcuniversity

Try accessing the url again. The most likely cause is that SharePoint timed out on the first request and will work when accessed again. Also, try allocating more RAM to the virtual image.

2010 Image: VMWare image is slow

If the image is slow after a number of initial requests, try the following to speed it up:
  • Turn off applications (at your own risk) that are memory or CPU intensive, such as antivirus, Windows Aero Themes, encryption software, or any other start up programs that you will not be using during the training
  • If the VMware image was running fast then started to slow down after a few hours, try to clear up memory:
    • Shutdown the Windows 2008 Server in the VMware Player completely. Close VMware Player.
    • Restart your computer
    • Start the VMware virtual image
  • Do not run the VMware virtual image from your USB hard drive (unless you are using USB 3.0 connection
  • Add more physical RAM. The official Microsoft minimum for RAM is 4GB on development machines
  • Upgrade to a solid-state drive. This will boost performance considerably.
  • Run the image on a different machine.

2010 Image: VMWare full screen does not work correctly

  • Install the latest video drivers for your computer.
  • Go to VMware Player > Edit virtual machine settings > Display > 3D graphics make sure that the box is checked for “Accelerate 3D graphics”.
  • Click on full screen few times if the first try does not work. Sometimes VMware Player takes a few tries for the screen to adjust correctly

Internet Explorer error. Videos do not play.

SharePoint 2007 Training DVDs require Internet Explorer 6 or 7. If you are using newer IE browser you will need to use compatibility mode.
  1. Copy the all the training files to your local hard drive (to your desktop or a different hard drive)
  2. Open Internet Explorer
  3. Click on Tools > Compatibility View Setting
  4. Add your Computer Name under “Add this website”. You can find your computer name under System Information. Close the dialog once you see the computer name under “Websites you’ve added to Compatibility View”
  5. Start the training from your hard drive (not DVD drive) by opening Start.html with Internet Explorer.
  6. Change the link in the address bar at the top:
    Example: From “C:\Start.html” to “\\COMPUTERNAME\C$\Start.html”

Demos are not playing, but the audio works.

Please install the latest codec (TSCC) from the link below.

If you still can't see the demos please try the following.

  1. Change your Windows Media Player Settings. Go to Tools > Options > Performance > Video Acceleration then change the acceleration to none.
  2. Reinstall and update the Media Player.
  3. Use the Training DVD on a different computer.  If you are using a work computer then try it on your home computer (work computers may have permission issues).

Demos are blurry

  1. Open your Windows Media Player.
  2. Go to Tools > Options > Performance > Video Acceleration.
  3. Click on Advanced.
  4. Uncheck Use overlays.

Download problems (connection is lost or too slow)

Use a download manager such as FileZilla.  This software will help you recover broken downloads.

2007 Image: Virtual PC crashes

  1. Disable advanced mouse features or plug in a different mouse
  2. Install the latest Virtual PC from the Microsoft website
  3. Disable your Anti virus software when using Virtual PC (at your own risk).

2007 Image: Virtual PC is very slow and choppy

If you have at least 1 GB of memory and your Virtual PC is very slow and choppy you can do the following steps to improve your performance.
  1. Install the latest Virtual PC 2007 from Microsoft Website
  2. Disable programs that are taking up memory using task manager.
  3. Change your display theme to Windows Classic
  4. Try to allocate at least 650 megs of RAM to Virtual PC image.
  5. Turn on Full Hardware Acceleration inside the Virtual PC Image.
    a. Inside the Virtual PC Image right click on the desktop then select properties (you should be in Display properties)
    b. Click on Setting tab, then on Advanced button, and finally on Troubleshoot tab.
    c. Turn the hardware acceleration to full.
  6. Some dual core computers have showed problems with Virtual PC such as choppiness. Please follow the following instructions to enable the dual core processor to run at full mode within Virtual PC.

    a. Stop running Virtual PC
    b. Open notepad
    c. Open %appdata%\Microsoft\Virtual PC\options.xml (appdata is a hidden directory)
    d. Add or edit <virtual_machines> section of the file and add this key:
    e. <enable_idle_thread type="boolean">true</enable_idle_thread>
    f. Save the file and exit notepad
    g. Start Virtual PC
  7. Disable your Anti virus software when using Virtual PC (at your own risk).
