SharePoint 2003 Rating & Experts Module
Features
Rating Mechanism
- A user can rate a document, a list item, or a portal
listing by providing a numeric value on a scale from one to five,
along with a comment explaining the choice of rating.
- A user cannot rate his/her own items (Can be turned on or
off).
- A user cannot rate a specific item more than once (Can be
turned on or off).
- A user can choose to rate an item anonymously. (Planned but
currently not implemented for SharePoint 2003)
Commenting
- Besides rating an item, the user can reply to other users
ratings or simply post a comment about a document or a list
item without the numeric rating.
Rating Calculation
- The rating for a item is the average of all ratings
given.
- The rating for a user is the average of all rated
documents, list items, and listings that the user has written or owns.
Rating Display
- Users can see the average rating and number of votes
for list items or listings in list views, areas, or search
results
- Users can sort litems or filter search results using rating.
- A document, a list item, or a listing can have a list of
rating and comments associated with it, with each list item displaying the
rater's username, rating value, comment, and creation date.
Experts
- "Top Experts" for the site or for the entire portal
displays the list of Authors who have been rated highly sorted by the number of
points that they have recieved.
- Each expert has a profile displaying average rating in
different sites and the entire portal as well as the list of most highly rated
items.
Rating Promotion
- Users, who have read documents, or list items, but did not
rate them, will periodically recieve one email reminder to rate them. (Planned
but currently not implemented for SharePoint 2003)
Points
- Each rating can be assigned a different point value, which
determines user's point total. For example a rating of 5 can be 5 points, but
the rating of 1 can be -1 points. If the user recieves a rating of 5 and a
rating of 1 his point total is going to be 4 (5 + (-1)).
Globalization
- All languages packs are implemented as satellite assemly
resource files. The main assembly does the number and date formatting based on
the current culture.
Administration and Configuration
- Users can report inappropriate comments to site
administrators. (Planned but currently not implemented for SharePoint 2003)
- Site administrators can review the queue of abuse reports
and remove inappropriate rating and comments. (Planned but currently not
implemented for SharePoint 2003)
- All settings are stored in web.config file.
